I was born in 1989 in the Roaring River Valley, in the surrounding area of Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave. At that time, our village was located near the cave itself. In 1998, the community was relocated to what is now Teakettle Village, where I continue to live today.

Growing up, ATM Cave was always part of our landscape and our stories. My father worked on several early expeditions when the cave was first being investigated by archaeologists. Although we knew about the cave’s existence, what lay deep inside remained a mystery for many years. I grew up listening to stories about this sacred and fascinating place long before I ever entered it myself.

In 2007, I became a certified general tour guide, focusing on cave exploration and naturalist guiding. Through professional training and experience, my connection to ATM Cave grew far beyond curiosity — it became a lifelong commitment. Becoming a licensed guide was not only a career path, but also my opportunity to responsibly share the cave that shaped my childhood.

As part of Belize’s national certification requirements, guides must complete extensive training, including swift water rescue and cave rescue programs. These certifications ensure that every tour is conducted with safety, preparedness, and professionalism at the highest standard.

Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave is internationally recognized for its cultural and archaeological importance. In 2004, National Geographic identified ten sacred caves around the world, and ATM Cave was ranked number one. To guide visitors through a site of such global significance is both a privilege and a responsibility that I take seriously.

Today, I guide guests not only through a cave system, but through a piece of living history that has shaped my community and my life.
